Hot Tap Drain Valve Installed

The brief

PwC needed a drain valve installed for the Sprinkler contractor to carry out works.

IDWe Ltd’s Services Supplied

We returned to the site and isolated the necessary pipework to install a 50mm hot tap drain point on the 150mm sprinkler trunk main. Our engineers completed the hot tap with sealed plugs, preparing it for future use. After installation, we ensured the system remained fully operational.

Hot Tap Installation Result

In conclusion, our engineers left the site clean and tidy, with all redundant parts being disposed of at a licensed refuse/recycling facility.

The Valve is now ready for the sprinkler contractor to carry out works at a late date.

What is Hot Tapping?

It is a method used to safely connect new pipework to an existing, pressurised system without shutting it down. Engineers drill into the pipe while it remains in service, allowing modifications or branch connections without disrupting operations. This technique is essential in industries where downtime isn’t an option, such as water, gas, and heating systems. Want to learn more about how hot tapping can benefit your projects? Benefits of Hot Tapping

Hot tapping is a highly efficient technique used to create new pipeline connections. This method allows engineers to safely drill into pressurised pipes, tanks, or vessels, enabling modifications, maintenance, or expansions without interrupting operations. Industries such as oil and gas, water distribution, and HVAC rely on hot tapping to maintain productivity while avoiding costly downtime. By eliminating the need for system shutdowns, businesses can continue operations smoothly, reducing disruptions to services and customers.

One of the biggest advantages of hot tapping is its ability to minimise financial losses associated with downtime. Traditional methods require complete system shutdowns, draining, and re-pressurisation, which can be both time-consuming and costly. Hot tapping eliminates these delays, allowing for seamless integration of new branches, valves, or monitoring equipment. Additionally, this technique enhances workplace safety by reducing the risks associated with depressurising large systems, preventing contamination, and ensuring a controlled, secure modification process.
