A school in the London Borough of Hillingdon requested our Isolation Valve Installation Services after both water main Isolation Valves failed and needed replacement As a leading Pipe Freezing Company in London, read our case study below to find out more:
Client – Anders Heating
Site Location – ACS International School, Hillingdon, Uxbridge
Contract Duration – Weekend works, One day
Installed Valve with Pipe Freezing
During the weekend our team of engineers attended ACS International School in Hillingdon to carry our Isolation Valve Installation Services.
Onsite our Pipe Freezing Services team carried out two Pipe Freezes to the cold water mains incoming supply. This was due to the Isolation Valves failing and needed to be replaced.
Following on from this, to replace the Valves, our engineers froze the pipework on either side of the Valves to enable works to take place.
After that, our team carried out enabling works by installing 80mm Valve, Non Return Valve and Flushing Point.
Isolation Valve Installation Result
In conclusion, both water main Isolation Valves have been replaced.
This was in preparation for Anders Heading to carry out pipework upgrade to ACS International School.

Pipe Freezing Process Explained
Pipe freezing isolates sections of a pipeline without draining the entire system, making it a common technique in plumbing, HVAC, and industrial applications. It provides a quick and efficient way to perform maintenance or repairs on a pipeline.
To begin the process, technicians use a specialized freezing jacket or clamp. They wrap it around the pipe at the desired location. This jacket is then filled with a freezing agent, usually liquid nitrogen or carbon dioxide. These substances rapidly cool the pipe, causing the liquid inside to freeze and form a solid ice plug. For more information, please read our guide.
An Ice Plug Explained
The ice plug acts as a temporary seal, preventing water or other fluids from flowing through the pipe. This allows workers to safely perform repairs or modifications on the isolated section. Unlike traditional methods that require draining and refilling, pipe freezing saves both time and resources.
Once the work is complete, the freezing agent is removed, and the pipe gradually returns to its normal temperature. The ice plug melts naturally, allowing fluid to flow freely again. Because the pipe remains intact throughout the process, there is no risk of air pockets or contaminants entering the system.
What’s the advantages?
This service offers several advantages. It eliminates the need for system shutdowns, reduces water loss, and minimizes downtime. It is especially useful in hospitals, factories, and other facilities where continuous operation is crucial. This method works best for smaller-diameter pipes, while larger pipes often require more advanced techniques.
In conclusion, pipe freezing is a reliable and efficient way to isolate sections of a pipeline. By using extreme cold to create an ice plug, it allows for safe and cost-effective repairs. This process continues to be a valuable tool in various industries.
