Commercial Liquid Nitrogen Pipe Freezing Services
Our fast and experienced pipe isolation services were required at the InterContinental Park Lane, Central London, W1. The Hotel reported a leak on an existing pipework flange. The leak needed to be repaired urgently to prevent any further damage. While the works took place, the Hotel also required a 150mm wheel operated butterfly valve to be installed for future use.
Repairing Leaking Pipework
Firstly, our experienced engineers used step ladders and a mobile scaffold tower to reach the pipework at a high level. Our team then removed the existing insulation on the 150mm LTHW pipework for access.
Our qualified engineers applied two freeze jackets around the LTHW pipework, approximately 20m apart, one on each side of the leak. Liquid Nitrogen was then poured into the freeze jackets and allowed to freeze. This formed a freeze plug which stopped the water from flowing. When the two pipe freezes had taken hold, our engineers were able to release the existing pipework containment. The pipework was then positioned so that the faces and edges of the pipework flanges were thoroughly cleaned.
Next, our team removed the existing bolts/washers from the existing pipework flanges, drained the section of the pipework between the two pipework freezes. Following on from this, we then proceeded to install new flange gaskets together with new bolts/nuts/washers to reconnect the pipework. The new flange was installed and we applied a coat of red oxide paint to the flanges bolts/nuts/washers to blend the pipework.
After the works were complete, we allowed for the pipework to thaw. Then we filled the pipework with water and examined the pipework to check for leaks. Lastly, we replaced the missing pipework insulation. After finishing our assigned pipe freezes, our engineers made sure to dispose of all unnecessary items at a licensed recycling facility.
Installed Wheel Operated Butterfly Valve
Four expert engineers returned to site to carry out an additional pipework freeze to the 150mm LTHW pipework in the basement corridor. Once the pipework freeze had taken hold, we supplied and installed a a new 150mm wheel operated butterfly valve. Along with two flanges, nuts, bolts and gaskets onto the LTHW pipework.
From our in-house workshop our trained engineers fabricated a new 400mm long stool piece. Which was installed by welding on two flanges onto the 150mm pipework insitu complete with nuts, bolts and gaskets.
The works were completed swiftly and efficiently. We allowed the freezes to thaw and filled the new pipework with water to check for any leaks. Lastly, once our safety checks were finished, we ensured the site was left tidy redundant items were taken to at a licensed refuse / recycling facility.
LTHW Pipework Repair Result
The InterContinental Hotel was pleased with the leak being fixed and speed the works were carried out. The new Butterfly Valve was installed to a high standard and is ready for future plans.
