In Slough, the customer required two urgent repairs to the LTHW (low temperature hot water) pipework hidden in a ceiling void, due to a leak on the existing pipework. They also required pipe freeze isolation and new branches to be installed.
To avoid interrupting daily operations, we scheduled the entire job outside of normal working hours to ensure the business would stay open.

Pre-Isolation Ensures a Safe and Smooth Start
Twelve hours before arrival, the heating pipework was isolated. This step enabled us to get straight to work on-site. We deployed a six-person team to complete the work efficiently. Our engineers are trained, experienced, and fully insured. This preparation meant no delays and full control from the moment we arrived.
Protecting the Work Area with Safety at the Core
We safeguarded the ceiling space and surrounding areas using heavy-duty sheeting and plywood, ensuring nothing was left exposed during IDWe Ltd works.
To allow safe access from above, our team constructed a structurally supported, temporary working platform within the ceiling void using clean timber and Acro supports.
Liquid Nitrogen Pipe Freezing: Clean, Fast and Precise
We applied liquid nitrogen pipe freezing to four points along the flow and return LTHW pipework. Each freeze was spaced two metres apart. This allowed full pipe isolation without draining or cutting off the building’s water supply. It’s ideal for LTHW and HVAC systems.
Liquid nitrogen allows live pipe freezing even in sensitive or fully operational environments. It’s precise, controlled, and zero-disruption.
Corroded Pipe Removal Without Draining the System
Once the pipe freezes were complete, we cut out the corroded steel sections. Each section featured a 50mm branch tee saddle clamps connection. Our engineers worked within the frozen zones, to carry out the system maintenance works. This process is faster, cleaner, and more efficient than traditional draining methods.
Prefabrication for Speed and Accuracy
We pre-fabricated two new 80mm steel pipe sections off-site. Each included a welded 50mm branch for a seamless match. By preparing in advance, we reduced time on site and ensured the new pieces aligned perfectly. This means a faster install, less risk and a better outcome for our customer.
Flame-Free Installation with MegaPress Crimp Couplings
To install the new pipework sections, we used MegaPress crimp couplings — a modern, flame-free connection method ideal for tight spaces. We reconnected both the copper flow and return pipes. This makes the job quicker, safer, and compliant with building safety standards.
Installing Isolation Valves
Once the new pipework was in place 54mm isolation valves were installed, the pipework was then cut back and adapted to the system would all be reconnected. Our team are experienced in installing all types of pipework valves.
Leak-Free Re-connection
Once reconnected, we slowly released each pipe freeze. Then we pressure-tested the entire system to ensure there were no leaks. We reinstated the original insulation to maintain energy efficiency and comply with site requirements.
Final Clean-Up and Licensed Waste Disposal
We removed old pipework, insulation waste, and any redundant materials. These were taken to a licensed recycling facility and the site was left spotless, safe, and fully operational.
