Hot Tapping Pipework for the NHS

Our experienced Hot Tapping Services team services supported a tap piping at Hammersmith Hospital in London. On behalf of ESG Limited our brief was to ensure there was a bigger outlet for future use. The solution was to provide and install a Hot Tap, quatre inch outlet to the existing 8inch pipework.

During normal working hours, the following tasks were carried out for the Hot Tapping Pipework process at the hospital:

Gained access to the plant room
Isolated the localised smoke detection system while the work is in progress
Removed existing pipework insulation previously completed by others
Adapted one quatre inch section of pipe to connect to the 8 inch pipework, ensuring it can then be TIG welded onto the 8 inch pipework as advised
Supplied and installed one 1/4 inch quartre turn valve into the new outlet
Installed a drilling rig onto the pipework and created a quatre inch aperture in the pipework
Removed the drilling rig and the pipework section created during the aperture creation process
Closed the valve and installed a plug into the outlet in preparation for future use
Painted around the new Hot Tap
Reinstated the previously removed insulation around the pipework
Cleared the site of all redundant items upon completion of the work and disposed of these at a licensed refuse or recycling facility.
